About Me

My name is Corina Romero.  I grew up in a small town in southern New Mexico called Cloudcroft, which is near Ruidoso and White Sands. I am very family-oriented, and have a huge family, as I am the youngest of five, and have 11 nieces and nephews.  I would say that my love for my nieces and nephews inspired me to pursue a degree in education.  I also have a two-year-old son. I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, with an emphasis in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.  The 2019-2020 school year will be my sixth year of teaching, all in kindergarten. I am so excited to be your child's teacher this year!

Mission Avenue

Mission Avenue Elementary is a STEM (Science, technology, engineering and Math) magnet school that is part of the K-12 pathway of Engineering the Future. We are focused on using the design process to create the new ways of thinking. We will create curious, resilient and resourceful learners. Students will work together in groups to work together on solving problems. They will create hands on projects throughout the year.

During the last year, the school staff has been training to create STEM projects and lessons. We will have school- wide challenges with STEM throughout the year. We started a STEM lab that will give students the opportunities have hands-on project building. We have received grants for materials and new technology to support students. We have worked throughout the summer on ways to use these tools in our classrooms.

Homework/Nightly Reading

Students and families are expected to read 15-20 minutes each night. There will be a reading log sent home at the beginning of each month that students can track their reading. When these reading logs are turned in at the end of the month, we will give students a SWAG Tag that can be added to their necklace.

Volunteering

We invite families to volunteer in the school and classroom. We have several events every year that we need many parent volunteers and would love for YOU to be a part of it! Please complete your background check as soon as possible. They are just $12 and last for two years.
