Welcome to 2020-21 school year!

October marks my 8th year as principal at Mission Avenue Elementary.  I started my career 33 years ago in APS as an educational assistant, teacher, program support specialist, instructional coach, small learning community coordinator, and dean of students (I took a few years off along the way to be a mother and college student).  I pursued my education at UNM where I received my Bachelor of Science in Education with an Endorsement in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages; Master of Arts in Special Education; and my Education Specialist in Educational Leadership.

Through each journey that I have taken, I continue to learn and grow just like students.  I have a passion to watch children find their spark in learning and become curious individuals.  Being a principal has been the most rewarding position I have held over the years.  I feel truly blessed to have been selected as Principal of Mission Avenue, as I refer to the hidden gem in the North Valley.

I look forward to another fabulous and successful school year!

About Our School

Mission Avenue STEAM Magnet Elementary School focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.  We are the only K-12 pathway of Engineering the Future with Garfield Middle School and Valley High School. We are focused on using the design process to create the new ways of thinking. We will create curious, resilient and resourceful learners. Students will work together in groups to work together on solving problems. They will create hands on projects throughout the year.

We are the only elementary school in APS to provide Project Lead the Way science curriculum Pre-K thru 5th grade.  We provide students with school-wide challenges that will evoke student curiosity and provide students opportunities apply the design process.  We hold two showcase events during the school year.  The first is specific for Mission Avenue, while the second provides all three schools to share the common learning taking place K-12 grade.
