DISTANCE LEARNING...

Learning about our 5th grade.

Ms. Martindale and I teach using a Departmentalized Program. Ms. Martindale teaches English Language Arts (ELA) and Social Studies and I teach Math and Science. This allows us to focus on and master one or two subjects, which provides for a greater level of expertise and deeper understandingBecause of this, we have a greater ability to differentiate our instruction to meet the needs of all learners.  Also, we have found that given the opportunity to teach what we love, we are far more invested!

How will this look for distance learning? Google Classroom (GC) is our main platform. Assignments will be posted and students will turn in assignments through GC. We both will have teaching videos and scheduled live Google Meets (GM) to explain and answer any questions.

What will the day look like? Once we meet and get our class lists, we will contact parents. We realize these are hard times and what may work for one family may not for another, but Mrs. Martindale and I are more than willing to work together to make the best out of a difficult situation. The link below discusses different types of schedules for student(s). Again, these are only suggestions that hopefully will trigger some thoughts or ideas. You may choose not to have any type of schedule, which is fine. One thing we learned from the spring - Routines are key!

How will this look for the hybrid model? As we know, things can change in a heartbeat. However, what we have planned is that Ms. Martindale and I will teach our specific subjects in our own classrooms in the morning. WE will then switch classrooms, the students will stay in their assigned room, and teach that group. We are hoping to live stream our lessons so that students at home will be receiving the same content🤞.
