All about Mission Avenue Elementary:

Mission Avenue Elementary is a STEM (Science, technology, engineering and Math) magnet school that is part of the K-12 pathway of engineering the future. We are focused on using the design process to create the new ways of thinking. We will create curios, resilient and resourceful learners. Students will work together in groups to work together on solving problems. They will create hands on projects throughout the year.

During the last year, the school staff has been training to create STEM projects and lessons. We will have school- wide challenges with STEM throughout the year. We started a STEM lab that will give students the opportunities have hands on project building. We have received grants for materials and new technology to support students. We have worked throughout the summer on ways to use these tools in our classrooms.

All about your teachers:

I am Amanda Pacheco-Suazo and I will be your student’s teacher this year! I am so excited for the school year and to work with you and your family. This is my fourth year teaching at Mission Avenue. I am very excited to be returning to such a positive and wonderful school.

Here is just a little bit of information about myself. I grew up in Santa Fe, New Mexico and moved to Albuquerque to pursue a degree in Education. I graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I worked at Montezuma Elementary and Lavaland elementary for 4 years.  During that time, I received a Master’s degree in Special education. I finished my 7th year of teaching at Mission Avenue and excited to be returning.

We are very lucky to have Mrs. Mary as our educational assistant. She is an Albuquerque native and lives in the Mission community. She has worked here at Mission Avenue for the past 24 years. She has worked in the science labs and also in the special education classrooms. She has 3 children and 5 grandkids. Her husband, kids and grandkids have all come to Mission. She is very excited to be working in kindergarten this year.
